Why finding clients is like going on a date? 💞

Facilitator Sticky Diaries

Hi Reader🙋🏼‍♀️

I’ll be honest — I’m in pre-Fit For Facilitation chaos mode right now.

Sticky notes everywhere, Butter Scenes open, caffeine levels questionable…

....you know what I mean😅

With just one week to go, I’m putting the final touches on my session when this thought suddenly popped up:

Finding clients is basically like dating.”

You put yourself out there, hoping to make a good impression.
Sometimes you click instantly — sparks fly.
Sometimes you get ghosted. 👻
And sometimes… it’s just plain awkward.

A big lesson I’ve learned?

Finding clients isn’t about chasing or convincing people.
It’s about connecting — showing up with curiosity, honesty, and a bit of courage.

And just like in dating, there are a few first-date mistakes
we should probably avoid😉

💞 Five “First-Date” Mistakes

Because, just like dating, client-finding has its stages — and a few classic mistakes we’ve all made along the way.

1️⃣ Not leaving the house.
You can’t meet people — or clients — if you’re hiding behind your laptop.
👉 Show up where your potential clients hang out — online communities, networking events, or even your own circle. Let people know what you do.

2️⃣ Starting with a sales pitch.
It’s like showing up on a first date and talking about your five-year plan. 😅
👉 Begin with curiosity. Ask about their world — their goals, their challenges, what excites them.

3️⃣ Trying too hard to impress.
That over-rehearsed version of yourself? It doesn’t work in dating or client calls.
👉 Be real. Authenticity builds trust faster than any perfect elevator pitch.

4️⃣ Taking silence personally.
Not every chat turns into a romance — or a project. And that’s okay.
👉 Follow up once, then move on gracefully. Rejection just means you’re getting closer to the right match.

5️⃣ Disappearing after a great connection.
We’ve all been there — great vibe, lots of potential… then poof.
👉 Stay in touch. A quick message, a shared resource, or a friendly check-in keeps the spark alive.

LA WORKSHOPPEUSE Facilitator Sticky Diaries Hi Reader🙋🏼♀️ I don’t know if you know this, but I’ve spent over 20 years working inside companies and organizations—leading interdisciplinary and multicultural teams. And you know what used to drive me absolutely crazy? 👉 The silos.👉 The unspoken assumptions.👉 The emotional reactions in meetings (yes, people shouting at each other).👉 The misunderstandings that kept conversations polite—but unproductive. There is always a gap between what we think,...
